The research

It is established that music can play an important role in the context of psychiatric intensive care.
The Amenhotep Collective has developed the Ktell system, a musical listening device intended for psychiatric intensive care rooms. This device allows patients to listen to a selection of pieces of music categorized according to the emotional content they convey.
In order to offer a wider choice of music and therefore provide hospitals with new playlists, we need your help!

What you are going to do

This involves listening to up to 120 short extracts of pieces of music and determining the main emotional content these pieces convey.
Important: you do not have to be a music specialist to participate in our project, there are no right or wrong answers, it is your subjective experience that interests us.
We will ask you a few questions about yourself: age, gender, field of study or profession, musical preferences and activities. All this data is used as part of the study and will not be used for any other purpose.

It is possible to leave the website and return to it later. All you have to do is log in again with the same credentials and resume categorization.

After listening to the song excerpt, select the main emotion you believe the song conveys and then click submit. A confirmation message will appears and the next song excerpt will automatically appear.

If you prefer not to categorize a particular piece, don’t click submit and just move on to the next piece.

The 4 categories are as follows:

  1. Joyful Activation
Joyful, lively, upbeat, danceable music, sometimes with a wink, cheerful and sparkling.
  2. Nostalgia
Melancholic, sentimental, dreamy music that evokes memories.
  3. Calm
Relaxed, serene, tranquil, meditative, contemplative music.
  4. Tension
Restless, nervous, commanding respect, apprehensive, dark music.
